CASE STUDY

How Sphere Delivered AOCRA's Hamilton Island Cup Range in 20 Days

Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association

The Australian Outrigger Canoe Racing Association had a fixed national championship date and only 20 days to produce a complete merchandise range. Sphere Resources confirmed factory feasibility upfront, then coordinated eight product lines, close to 2,000 units and more than eight colourways as one programme.

The Challenge

  • A Deadline a Third the Length of Standard

An eight-to-12-week production cycle had to fit into 20 days, with air freight to an island venue added on top. There was no flexibility in the event date to absorb delays anywhere in the chain.

  • Eight Product Lines Moving as One

Race jerseys, tees, caps, towels and waterproof jackets each ran through different manufacturing processes and more than eight colourways. One late line could have held up the whole range.

  • Colour That Had to Match Twice Over

Every product needed Pantone-accurate printing on blanks whose base colour also matched the designer's spec — a two-part colour check repeated across eight-plus colourways, inside a schedule with almost no room for a second attempt.

The Solution

Sphere Resources built speed into the plan before a unit went into production. Using base patterns cut out weeks of pattern development, and remote photo approvals let AOCRA sign off on artwork and colour without waiting for samples to travel back and forth. Print panels and Pantone swatches were approved before bulk production began, and blank colours were checked line by line so nothing reached the factory floor uncontrolled. Full-bulk photography was reviewed before despatch, and rather than wait for every line to finish, Sphere Resources released completed product as staged air-freight shipments — so garments started moving toward Hamilton Island the moment they were ready, not once everything was.

The Objectives

  • Confirm feasibility of a 20-day production schedule before committing to the order.
  • Hold Pantone and blank-colour accuracy across more than eight colourways.
  • Move eight product lines through production and QC without one line delaying the rest.
  • Get the core range to Hamilton Island ahead of the fixed event date.

The Results

Eight Product Lines, One Coordinated Programme

Race jerseys, running caps, singlets, cut-and-sew tees, beach towels and waterproof jackets — eight lines across four manufacturing processes — moved through production as a single managed programme. AOCRA had one team accountable for the whole range, not eight separate supplier conversations.

Close to 2,000 Units, Zero Colour Compromises

The finished range delivered close to 2,000 units across more than eight colourways, every one Pantone-checked and blank-matched before it left the factory. Checking colour twice — on the print and on the blank — kept the whole range consistent with AOCRA's original artwork.

On the Island a Week Before the Event

Instead of holding the whole order for one shipment, Sphere Resources released finished lines the moment they cleared quality control. The core range reached Hamilton Island more than a week before the event — inside a production-to-delivery window roughly a third the length of standard.

Event-Ready Merchandise Under Pressure

For a national governing body, an event date is fixed. Sphere Resources confirmed feasibility before accepting the order and held colour and quality across eight product lines inside a fraction of the usual lead time — proof enough that AOCRA has already returned for a further order.
