CASE STUDY
Kickoff Merchandise for the Australian NFL Game
An Australian licensed sports merchandise distributor
An Australian sports merchandise distributor needed event merchandise for the 2026 NFL Melbourne Game, the 49ers vs. Rams at the MCG — the first NFL regular-season game on Australian soil. Sphere Resources coordinated a three-product range across two orders, delivered ahead of kickoff.

The Challenge
A Fixed Kickoff Date on the Other Side of the World
The 2026 NFL Melbourne Game had a locked date and a first-of-its-kind profile in Australia. Merchandise produced offshore had to clear production, quality checks and international freight with zero room to slip past kickoff.
Three Products, Three Different Builds
An inflatable PVC kangaroo, a printed EVA foam hand and AFL-style balls each called for different materials and artwork methods — coordinated across two orders placed six weeks apart, without either falling out of step.
A Local Twist on a Global Team's Identity
The brief paired an NFL franchise's branding with distinctly Australian creative — an inflatable kangaroo and "G'Day Faithful" fan messaging — meaning approval had to protect the team's identity and the local joke landing correctly.
The Solution
Sphere Resources built the programme around the distributor's specifications from the outset. The inflatable kangaroo was produced in eco-friendly PVC with Pantone-matched yellow and precise 49ers logo placement; the foam hand carried "49 Saloon" and "G'Day Faithful" artwork in Pantone-matched red EVA; and the AFL-style balls moved as a separate, fast-turnaround order. Each product's artwork, colourways and packaging were signed off before bulk production, and the team tracked both orders through to air freight — so a programme that started as two separate purchase orders arrived as one coordinated range in time for the game.
The Objectives
- Produce Pantone-matched artwork and colourways across three distinct product types.
- Coordinate two separate purchase orders into one delivery timeline.
- Package and freight the full range to arrive ahead of kickoff.
- Protect both the 49ers' brand identity and the distributor's local creative concept through production.
The Results

Three Products, One Coordinated Range
Sphere Resources delivered a 49ers-branded inflatable kangaroo, supporter foam hands and AFL-style balls as one range, produced across two purchase orders and multiple production processes — giving the distributor a single point of coordination instead of three separate supplier relationships.

Colour and Artwork Locked to Spec
Each product's artwork and Pantone colourways were approved before bulk production — from the kangaroo's yellow PVC and 49ers logo placement to the foam hand's red EVA and dual-sided “49 Saloon” / “G'Day Faithful” print — keeping the range consistent with the distributor's brief.

On the Ground Ahead of Kickoff
The completed range was delivered in time for the 2026 NFL Melbourne Game, giving the distributor merchandise on hand for the first NFL regular-season game played in Australia.
Timed to the Kickoff, Not a Day Late
For a licensed sports merchandise distributor, a game like this doesn't get a second date — the 49ers and Rams kicked off at the MCG in front of 100,000 fans. Sphere turned a two-part order into one coordinated production and freight programme, landing three products in time. If your next date is fixed, talk to us.
